KAT’S STORY - 27 YRS
A LITTLE ABOUT YOU?
27, studied marine biology. Was working as a marine educator before lockdown teaching kinder kids about marine animals and bringing live sea creatures in for them to see and touch. Next year I’m moving to Canberra for a graduate position in The Department of Agriculture Water and the Environment.
How did you feel when you did your first training session?
“Like I was going to die. It was also smoky from the bushfires and I remember needing to take heaps of breaks. I also remember feeling frustrated that I’d lost some of my fitness over the summer while I wasn’t training.”
How do you feel now when you come in and train?
“Really good, I still leave feeling really exhausted because the workouts are always challenging but it feels so good to notice how much I’ve improved in my fitness.”
What motivates you to keep turning up and training?
“I used to find gym a bit of a chore but knowing how much I’ve improved keeps me motivated and excited to come back in. Now I genuinely enjoy working out and keep motivated by setting little goals for myself. At the moment I’m trying to improve my core strength & technique across the board.”
What advice would you give someone who is looking to start?
“Do it, it will probably be tough in the first couple of weeks but if you stick to it you’ll get better every day and start to love working out.”
